BSG Gel Product FAQ
Q: What is gel polish and how is it different from regular nail polish?
A: Gel polish can be applied to either natural nails, artificial nails or even acrylic nails. Gel polish comes in a base, colour and top coat.
However, gel polish has many more advantages!
Gel polish cures (dries) instantly from 30 seconds to 2 minutes under a professional UV/LED lamp. There is no more dry time or smudges. Gel polish does not air dry, it must be cured under UV/LED light to harden.
Gel polish is designed to be durable and more suitable for the busy everyday life. Professional gel polishes should last 2+ weeks with no chips, lifts or cracks.
Gel polish requires a “soak-off” removal. Unlike regular nail polish, you must “soak” the gel polished nails in professional acetone then remove by gently pushing off loosened gel.
Lastly, GEL POLISH is the product – NOT a brand name! Just like every beauty cosmetic, there are different gel polish brands with different benefits and drawbacks. We highly do not recommend using unknown gel polishes. Do not deprive yourself of proper nail education and care.
Q: How Bio Seaweed Gel (BSG) different than other gel brands?
A: BSG is the healthier professional gel choice. Regardless of the frequency of wear, BSG does not damage the natural nails. In fact, BSG is formulated to promote natural nail growth and shine. With zero dehydration, staining or weakening, Bio Seaweed Gel will last 2+ weeks for healthier, high shine chip-free nails.
All our gel products are:
Big-5 Free: No Formaldehyde, Toluene, DBP, BHA, or Camphor
Vegan Friendly and Cruelty-Free
Easiest prep and application:
Absolutely no sanding, drilling, primers or bonders required on the natural nails.
Do not need to rough up the nails for a better adhesion.
Do not need any additional products for better adhesion.
Safe and gentle removal:
The removal process is key to how a gel polish will impact your nails; a hard removal is not only time consuming but damaging! Always use professional acetone to remove, follow proper steps and never peel the gel off prematurely.
Q: Why is the brand called Bio Seaweed Gel? Is there seaweed?
A: BSG does not contain any seaweed products.
The name conveys and embodies the notion of healthier products! However, BSG is water-based and enriched with vitamins and minerals to promote overall nail strengthening.
Q: Is BSG a professional brand? Why do you sell to the public?
A: We are first and foremost a professional gel company. We educate and train a generation of future nail technicians, artists and salon owners. BSG offers exclusive professional pricing and promotions all year round to certified and verified salon professionals.
We sell to the public simply because we believe in healthier nails for all.

General guidelines on how to use UNITY:

All BSG Base and Top Gel Polishes are compatible with most professional gel systems.
Q: How and where do I efficiently store the products? What is the shelf-life?
A: Keep the products out of direct sunlight and UV/LED light. Store in a cool and dry place, and ensure that the bottles are tightly sealed every use. Keep away from children.
On average, one 15mL bottle of BSG Polish lasts 60+ applications and one 25mL jar of BSG Sculpting Gel lasts 40+ applications. Bio Seaweed Gel is good to the last drop, when stored properly, the products never get clumpy or dried out. No polish thinners required or recommended.
Q: How do you apply/remove BSG?
A: BSG is a soak-off gel system.
Using professional acetone, you can safely & easily remove your gel nails in less than 10 minute utilizing either:
- The “foil and cotton method” – saturate cotton ball and wrap tight with tinfoil per nail;
- Soak-off tray – fill tray with sufficient amount of acetone and soak nails
Either methods above will “loosen” the gel after 5-10 minutes of soaking.
You then gently push off the loosened gel with an orangewood stick and/or nail buffer.
Always wash hands and moisturize after removal.
Q: Why are my BSG gel nails chipping/lifting?
A: Most common troubleshooting;
Chipping caused by:
- applying to too thick coats of gel colour
- capping the free edge (brushing the end of the nail tip with gel colour)
- always apply thin, even coats; the colour will self-level itself each time and become opaque and true to colour after 2- 3 coats
- do not cap free edge, just simply paint from cuticle to nail tip in smooth motion; the gel will not shrink for perfect application
Lifting caused by:
- improper prep
- under-curing (not cured enough)
- correct prep is key: shape and file, buff nails lightly with buffer to even ridges, wipe with 70% alcohol to remove all dusts and oils – wait until nails are completely dry to begin application
- proper cure times as stated are based on BSG LAMPS – for non-BSG lamps, always cures double the time

Q: What is the difference between a dip powder manicure and a gel manicure?

Q: Is dip powder the same as acrylic?
A: BSG Dip Powder is a 2-in-1 formula which means, it may be paired with your choice of a monomer to achieve an acrylic set. BSG does not carry, nor plan to carry a line of monomer. The BSG Dip System includes BSG Dip Powder Colours and 5-Free Dip liquids for a long-lasting dip manicure.

A: We always recommend storing all BSG products away from direct sunlight and in a dark cool place. The shelf life of the BSG Dip System is 12 months after first use. After 12 months, due to oxidation the BSG Dip Powder may experience slight colour discolouration. Always keep the BSG Dip Liquids closed and tightly sealed before, during and after use to prevent drying out. Use the #5 Brush Saver to effectively clean hardened brushes.
Q: My Dip Liquids are unable to open and brushes are hardening, help!
A: Since the Dip Liquids are air-dry products, they must be cleansed and sealed tightly after each use. Be sure to use #5 Brush Saver for bottles that are unable to open. DO NOT FORCE OPEN. Use #5 to effectively cleanse, and dissolve any solidified dip powder on brushes both in-between and after use.
To open stuck bottles:
Swipe #5 Brush Saver around the rim of your bottle and open
To clean hardened brushes:

A: Depending on the length and thickness of the application, you can average 20-40 sets.

Q: My natural nails are very uneven and have ridges, can BSG Dip Powder make my nails even?
A: Yes, you will have to follow complete application steps for overlay (found here) and first smooth out your ridges by applying either #00 Natural or #0 Clear - however instead of finishing with a top coat, after you have smoothed out your nails you may then follow the steps to apply colour and finish with top.
Q: My Dip Powder looks very blotchy, the colour is not solid, how can I fix this?
A: You must roll and mix the Dip Powder Jar well before use to ensure it is fully mixed well prior to use. Over time, pigments will separate and settle to the bottom of the jar. Turn upside down and roll, shake, do a little dance and mix it well.
Q: What are Tips & Tricks for maximum long lasting wear with Dip?
- Ensure to push back cuticles and remove any dry skin to avoid any lifting if products are painted on the dry/dead skin
- Always paint 1 thin hair line under the cuticle, never apply any product on your skin
- Always paint the #2 Base Liquid as thin as possible (less is more!)
- Allow at least 30 seconds-1 minute dry time between dipping to ensure the #2 Base Liquid has had a chance to dry (premature dusting may cause smudges in the process)
- Always seal in your BSG Dip Colour with #0 Clear to ensure the colour is protected from being worn out
- Clean your BSG Dip Liquids after each use with the #5 Brush Saver, these are air-dry products, must be sealed after each use
