Hello and welcome to Beyond the Paint, a blog by Bio Seaweed Gel (BSG. Every month, we will be releasing new content discussing all things BSG for this upcoming month including sneak peeks, nails and more. We finish up every issue with ‘Artist Spotlight’ a mini-interview series featured on Beyond the Paint where we share insider interviews with our favourite nail professionals and creators.

We start this month’s blog with a moment of silence for the sudden passing of our beloved friend and Brand Ambassador Kimberly Ta of @ohlalanails.

We send our hearts, condolences and prayers to Kimmy's family and friends during these difficult times. Our hearts too are broken for the loss of Kimmy.

We have the incredible honour of recognizing Kimmy as our Brand Ambassador for six years, but more importantly, she was our friend. Kimmy was and always will be one of our nail community's top nail artists. Her artistry and talent were undeniable and will continue to inspire us all, but it is her beautiful and kind spirit that touched all our lives and will be remembered forever.

Although we only had the honour to meet Kimmy once at Premiere Orlando 2018, it was unmistakable how much of a sincere, kind, caring, sweet and loving person she was. Kimmy was always the ray of sunshine, she would light up the room without even knowing it. Kimmy was so humble and the way she made us feel so much positivity will never be forgotten or replaced. Kimmy made a difference in our lives and she will be dearly and truly missed by us all.

We reach out to all our readers and ask you to please visit this link if you have anything to share and help support Kimmy’s family during these difficult times.

Thank you, Kimmy, for being our friend. We will always love and miss you.

Our last featured artist spotlight of the year is on none other than our dazzling Brand Ambassador, Hannah Lee of @hannaroxit. With 137k followers on Instagram and 411k subscribers on YouTube, we had the honour of nabbing some one-on-one time with this busy creative – read on to learn more about the glitzy world of Hannah.

To begin, could you tell us a little about yourself - namely how you got into this profession and into this side of the nail business as a content creator?

“I have always loved doing my nails since I was young. I did have much interest in makeup or hair, but when it came to my nails, it was just way more fun to me. After high school, I decided to get my nail tech license since my mom has a small wellness studio. I thought it would be a good idea to offer mani/pedi services since she has a good clientele already. Half way through school, our teacher showed us how to marble flowers with a needle. It was definitely one of those old school looking designs, but back then, I was so amazed. I thought, how cool is this?! That's when I got the idea that I could make a channel on YouTube for all things nails included nail art designs. When I first started, I really had no idea what I was doing. And I never considered myself an artist in the first place so my very first videos are so funny to watch. I do enjoy seeing videos from then and now because it just shows how much you can grow and learn.”

I see that you've done work for big name fashion houses like Valentino and Bottega (amazing!! 😍) Could you tell us what set was your favourite to have worked on? Have you ever had a * pinch me is this real life!?

“I'm so honored to have worked on so many big name sets! My favorite would definitely have to be with Zendaya for Valentino and Lancome. It was so much fun to be behind the scenes and watch how they create these amazing commercials and photos. I remember when we were all heading back to set and you could hear on the walkie talkies something being said about Z's crew coming in which was hair, makeup, stylist, and then me, as well. I was like, wait... I'm included in this. This is really cool.”

Of course, being on a BSG blog, we have to ask ... what is your favourite BSG colour?!

“That's so hard to choose, but as soon as I saw the rhinestone gel collection, I was super drawn to it. I have to pick purple geode as my favorite, for now at least.”

The holidays will be coming up soon and we'd love to know what are your favourite nail looks for the holidays?

“I'm all for sparkle during the holidays. These two designs can really work for any part of the holiday season. The rhinestones over a darker base is really great for New Years' and the more minimal sparkle outline over a natural color can compliment any outfit. You can also mix and match whatever colors you like!”

Lastly, we'd love to give you a chance to share any exciting news or upcoming projects that we can expect from you!

“I do have an exciting project coming soon but it's still under wraps so I can't say much about it yet! But other than that, I will be creating more fun nail art designs that will be great for the holiday season!”

To end the year and for the final blog post giveaway, we will be giving away an $100 BSG e-Gift card. All you need to do is comment below and let us know what was the most memorable moment of BSG for you this year?

One winner will be contacted by email on January 3rd 2021. Must be 18+ to enter and a resident of Canada. For all USA residents, to leave a comment on our USA blog click here.

Giveaway closed. Winner is Liv.

Probably the most memorable moment was when I placed my first BSG order and received notification it shipped 20 minutes later. I received it next day and have been hooked since 😍 they’re one of my all time favourite Canadian companies to purchase from!

Magdalene January 01, 2022

My most memorable BSG moment was trying your polish for the very first time after having tried another toxic free brand! I was blown away by the quality and colour (Hazelnut) and haven’t looked back since! And I absolutely love how fun it is to turn the colours matte with the matte top coat, it’s like having two colours in one bottle!

Bonnie December 29, 2021

I just got married this year 😃 and because my husband lives at a different town i had to quit my job at the salon where i worked for 6 years and move with him .

Now that im settled I decided to finally have my own business and .. since i have known and have used BSG from all 6 years i have worked at the salon, i thought it just made sense that i stick to a brand i know and love! once i offically open i would have almost EVERYTHING BSG 😂 from bebio to dippowder to gels to 3step (hubby went crazy with the spending and btw… He is even more excited opening up boxes lol)

I am grateful for my husband because he supports me with everything he has, believes in what i can do and trusts in me. I might forget about making a comment about this and i know alot more crazy things have happened like.. the wedding…but Im glad bsg had a part of it 😉 …and that is why i wont ever forget this memorable year

Yanyan December 26, 2021

My most memorable BSG moment this year was going into the BSG store for the first time! I was like a kid in a candy store and wanted to put everything into my basket. The ladies were super friendly and helpful which was icing on the cake!!

Liv December 23, 2021

My favorite BSG moment was when I was asked to be a Brand Ambassador again!!! I was so thrilled. When the program ended 2yrs ago I kept using the products because I really just loved them so. Great customer service has always been BSGs strongest asset and there was no way I was leaving them just because I was no long an ambassador. Plus such amazing quality and colors. BSGSquad is the best!!!

Cherie Renee Bates December 12, 2021

The most memorable moment for me with BSG was when I was asked to be apart of the #bsgsquad! Such a monumental moment in my nail tech career! Couldn’t be more grateful!!!

Alyssa Fronce December 10, 2021

The most memorable BSG moment was when I got a manicure for the second time and picked out BSG gel polish. I did not have a good experience with my first manicure but my second experience was lovely. BSG gel polishes have a variety of beautiful colours and lasted long on my nails! Its inspired me to get into doing nails and nail art myself! Thank you BSG for your amazing nail products!

Felicia December 10, 2021

I found BSG this year! I had been searching for a 5-free gel polish as my 9 year old daughter so badly wanted to have her nails done like mine. The Unity line is just perfect for her. We now spend quality time together doing our nails, and I’m so thankful for the memories we are building together.

Julia Hoeppner December 10, 2021

My most memorable BSG moment was when I got the opportunity to be a BSG engagement influencer. It was such a fun opportunity
